Extremely durable reflector optics

After years of experience of the manufacturer, have been equipped with reflector optics, made of refined aluminum, ensuring exceptional durability of the distribution curve of the luminaires. Tests have shown that after 80,000 hours of operation, the loss of efficiency is only about 0.7% of reflection, which does not affect the shape of the photometric solid or the color of the emitted light.

This means that the luminaire continues to shine directionally, and the object retains the designed lighting parameters. In contrast, lenticular optics perform much worse in research and testing. Luminaires equipped with plastic lenses (PMMA, PC) are subject to the aging process: they yellow and suffer micro-damage caused by the high temperature inside the luminaire. As a result, after several years (4-6), these luminaires no longer retain the original parameters of the photometric body specified in the design and emit light of a different color. In addition, high temperatures and damage caused by traction vibrations that occur near roads and railroads exacerbate the physical degradation of the lens shape, and thus the overall optics of such luminaires.

Reducing plastics

The elimination of plastics from the design of luminaires responsible for the quality of light emission is an important step towards plastic-free and microplastic production, which is produced during plastic polishing. Especially since plastic, as a perishable optical component of a luminaire usually dedicated to long-term LED operation (100,000 h), is used in the optics of luminaires made with lenticular technology. It should be emphasized here that the declared 100,000h of luminaire operation applies to the LEDs themselves, while none of the manufacturers of luminaires so equipped comment on the negative changes in the quality of the lenses.

The warranty does not recognize changes resulting from the natural symptoms of aging of the plastic, i.e. yellowing, or changes in the shape of the lenses caused by traction vibration and the high ambient temperature of the LEDs.

AEC Illuminazione’s certified luminaires contain recycled materials as high as 96%, and are serviced to replace all components of the design while maintaining the original optics dedicated to the road facility

Ventilated luminaire interiors

It’s well known that moisture is detrimental to electronics. Luminaires equipped with ventilation systems ensure the long-term functionality of the devices.

In our climatic zone, all sealed constructions, where temperatures are higher than the surroundings during the cooling phase of the luminaire, can lead to moisture forming at the interface between the cool housing and the cold environment. The solution is a filtered ventilation valve that removes moisture during the luminaire’s operation, thereby ensuring optimal, long-term operating conditions.

Sealing of the Construction

AEC Illuminazione luminaires are sealed using polyurethane gaskets cast during the production process. This material, known for its shape memory, is used as door seals in automobiles. It does not age or deform over years of operation.

Cast gaskets have no contact points that could potentially open the interior of the luminaire to contaminants or insects, making them highly effective at maintaining long-term seal integrity. Such sealing ensures cleanliness inside and optimal operating conditions for the luminaire, complemented by controlled ventilation through the ventilation valve.

Long-term functionality of LED

The long-term functionality of AEC luminaires, is a complex effort, requiring many years of experience from the manufacturer and a detailed analysis of the statistics of typical failures of luminaires with LED sources. In order to achieve the goal of long-term, failure-free functionality of the luminaire, it is necessary to balance all the components responsible for the degradation of such devices over time. In the design of AEC luminaires, perishable optical components were removed, the body was permanently sealed, ventilation and temperature control for the aluminum structure were added, corrosion-resistant coatings were developed, and the installation was adapted for multi-option control. Additionally, multi-stage overvoltage protection and optimized LED power supply conditions were implemented.

All these activities led to a product that responds to all the quality conditions of modern lighting, but also goes far ahead, being prepared for technological advances and widely implemented principles of clean production, environmentally neutral, and maximizing the use of resources produced in the so-called closed production cycle. According to AEC’s designers, it is not necessary to fire up a steel furnace a second time to reproduce an AEC production luminaire.
